Mocenské struktury, které shromažďují informace a organizují je na základě preferencí a jednání lidí a skupin, vytváří současná digitální média tak, jak je známe. Prostřednictvím regulativních systémů generují algoritmy stále větší počet obrazů zobrazujících tragédii a smrt, přičemž každá zpráva se nápadně podobá té, kterou uživatel právě viděl, nebo dokonce opakovaně zobrazuje tytéž grafické obrazy násilí. Tato smyčka umlčuje ty, kteří se rozhodnou skrýt znepokojivé zprávy ze svých prohlížečů a účtů na sociálních sítích, a traumatizuje jedince, kteří jsou těmito událostmi přímo zasaženi. Jedním z důležitých nástrojů, jak skrýt traumatizující obrazy a vyhnout se bolestným vzpomínkám, je funkce „označit obsah jako citlivý“. Může nás to ale doopravdy ochránit před obrazy násilí?

Power structures that collect data and organise it based on the preferences and behaviour of individuals or groups have created the digital media that we know today. Using regulatory systems, algorithms generate an ever-growing number of images of tragedy and death, every new report being strikingly similar to the previous one, or they even depict the same graphic images of violence. This loop silences people, and they don’t show the unsettling reports on their browsers and social media profiles, and it traumatises those directly affected by the events. One crucial tool for hiding such traumatic images and avoiding hurtful memories is the “mark this content as sensitive” feature. But can it really protect us from seeing images of violence?
